In 2020, Seven Generations A+E was honored to receive four awards out of four submissions at the AIA Southwest Michigan Design Awards. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and ongoing health concerns, there was no in-person award ceremony. At the 2021 ceremony, held recently in The Foundry in Kalamazoo, 7GAE received physical awards for our 2020 wins AND scooped up another award for the 2021 competition!
This year, 7GAE received an Honor Award for the Steelhead Office Buildout. The Steelhead Engineering Company is part of the Bodwé Professional Services Group and provides MEP Engineering services from their offices in Downtown Kalamazoo. It was a privilege to work with them on their office and support another company owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. While it takes a village to complete projects like this, we have to give a special shoutout to our interior design team, who were leaders for the Steelhead Office Buildout! Much of the space was inspired by the colors and shapes of the Steelhead salmon as well as the connection the firm has to natural elements and maintaining an equilibrium with Earth’s natural resources.
At the award ceremony, 7GAE also had the opportunity to pick up physical awards for the firm’s four wins last year on the following projects: Leadership Camp Treehouses, the Arcadia Festival Place Master Plan, an Indiana lakefront private residence, and the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe D1 Health Clinic. Most importantly, it was a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with our colleagues, congratulate one another on a successful year, and safely mingle with other leaders in the architecture field here in Southwest Michigan.
